Great techniques behind the Bumbal planning software

Bumbal is planning software for transport and delivery. Of course, users only see the web interface and the drivers APP in which they work. This allows you to quickly and easily organize delivery or service appointments, schedule them automatically and you have all track & trace facilities for customer, driver, planner and customer service. That is nice! But the Bumbal team works hard at the back to keep the Bumbal planning software in good condition and future-proof.

Bumbal Cloud planning software

Without getting too technical, it would be good to explain this briefly. What are the most important techniques that make Bumbal what it is? Bumbal is Cloud software, which means you can use it anywhere in the world via your internet browser. Roughly speaking, you need the following five elements for Cloud software:

  • servers;
  • application;
  • databases;
  • application management;
  • system connections.

The Bumbal servers run in data centers in Europe that meet the strictest data and privacy requirements. The data centers meet all guidelines and also have all necessary certificates. Naturally, Bumbal’s servers run at multiple locations and backups are performed automatically (every hour).

Collaboration of various techniques

Bumbal uses various techniques that make the software the way it is. The Bumbal application itself is developed in PHP programming language, Laravel structure (say, an organized warehouse for programming language) and REACT/REACT Next.js for the new web interface/the upcoming new drivers APP. Bumbal also works with MariaDB databases. In order for all the different parts of Bumbal to work together properly and to offer every user a safely protected Bumbal environment, robust application management is required. At Bumbal this is based on Kubernetes application containers. This allows you to give all application elements their own place (a container) that then work together efficiently. The advantage of application containers is that you can easily scale up specific users (groups) at certain peak times and that you can roll out new releases in a much more manageable manner. Certainty through the use of global standards

Finally, external system connections are mainly realized on the basis of API standards, but XML or CSV connections are also still possible. The application (management) and database techniques mentioned are global standards, major players such as Facebook, Amazon and Netflix also work with them. This means that the community to maintain and innovate such techniques is enormous and that provides certainty. The use of widely used standards worldwide is therefore Bumbal’s strategy. That is not only good for ourselves but certainly also for the Bumbal users!
