A few years ago, one of the founders of Bumbal was explaining his work in the logistics sector to one of his daughters. She noticed how many trucks and vans were on the road and asked the well-known childlike questions: “Why are there so many trucks driving around? Where are they all going?”
He gave her the logical explanation that each truck was carrying different goods, such as furniture, bicycles, televisions, and toys, and that these goods come from all over the place and need to go to various stores, businesses, and people. He also explained that nearly half of these trucks are actually driving empty. “Empty?” she said in surprise, “But why are so many driving empty?” And that’s when it dawned on him that, strangely enough, there was no logical answer to that question. What a waste.
This is one of the biggest challenges in logistics. It needs to change! The smart software from Bumbal was created because nearly 50% of transport today still drives empty. This doesn’t align with the massive challenge we face regarding climate change.

The name ‘Bumbal’ was, of course, chosen deliberately. Bumblebees don’t just fly around aimlessly looking for pollen. After a few test flights, they determine the optimal (shortest) route to new nectar locations and immediately share this information with the entire colony. Through this smart way of working, they save enormous distances and, consequently, a lot of time and energy. This clever behavior in nature is also known as the “travelling salesman problem.”
The algorithm in our smart software works in a similar way. We’ve added extra handy features to make it simple, to the point, and exceptionally fast. The name Bumbal and the logo were chosen with care. Bumbal is a play on the word “Bumblebee.” We specifically chose a cheerful bumblebee because our software makes your work easier, and that makes you happy!
